Halifax-based musician Gina Burgess is an accomplished performer, visual artist and teacher. Studying violin since the age of five and teaching music professionally since 2001, Gina has become a sought after soloist and educator all over Canada and beyond.
Gina excels in virtually any musical setting: She is a quadruple ECMA award winner with the gypsy-jazz outfit Gypsophilia, she fronts her own klezmer band Der Heisser, is one fifth of the Iqaluit-based Inuk rock band The Jerry Cans and is a regular collaborator in flamenco and Arabic music ensembles. Gina has toured all over Europe with Tim Crabtrees atmospheric indie-rock ensemble Paper Beat Scissors, and makes regular trips to remote communities in Nunavut and Greenland as both teacher and performer.
Gina has collaborated with the likes of Kanye West, Maria Osende Flamenco Co., Shauntay Grant, Dinuk Wijeratne, Erin Costello, Hey Rosetta!, Joseph Petric, the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, Rich Aucoin, Duane Andrews, Gabrielle Pappion, Symphony Nova Scotia, Lily Frost, DJ Spooky and Alex Conde.
