Multi-talented Alison Enrquez is a 17 year old violinist from Havana, Cuba, where she completed seven years of conservatory studies. At age 11 she won 1st prize in Youth Provincial Competitions (Havana) and subsequently she was invited to play as a part of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba (2014, 2015) and Holgun Symphony Orchestra (2015). After these seven years, with the help of Jeff Goodspeed and Los Primos Project. she decided to move to Canada and develop her career as a classical violinist.
In Halifax, Alison has been attending Armbrae Academy on a scholarship since Grade 10, and is now completing her high school studies in Grade 12.
As a popular performer, she recently shared solos with Gina Burgess and the jazz violinist Regina Carter, and has been part of festivals such as the Romeras de Mayo Festival (Cuba, 2017), Cape Breton Jazz Festival (2015, 2017), Halifax Jazz Festival (2012, 2016, 2017 and 2018) and Ravello Music Festival (Italy, 2015). She also performs regularly (violin and vocals) as part of Sunday Jazz at Stayners Wharf.
Alison studies with violinist Mark Lee and has played principal second with the Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra and Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra. Currently she is co-concertmaster with the N.S. Youth Orchestra.
